Old Bedminster Post Office

An early 20th century photo shows the old Bedminster, NJ, post office that stood at the corner of Main Street and Somerville Road (Route 202).   According to historian Prich Matthews, the post office occupied the west (right) side and the poor house, the east side.  The structure was demolished in the 1920s (Matthews, Bedminster Township, 250 Years, 1749-1999, p. 65).

A fire ring, used to raise fire alarms, is on the front lawn.  A traffic sign directs people to Far Hills and Larger Cross.  The site is now occupied by Designer Appliances.

From Map of the Vicinity of Philadelphia and Trenton (Lake & Beers, 1860).

In 1860, the post office (then called Lesser Cross Roads) was located across the intersection at the Honnell and Bunn store (corner of Lamington and Hillside).
