Oak Street School 1948

The eighth-grade class stands on the front steps of Oak Street School in Basking Ridge, N.J. in June 1948.  The photo shows 34 people including students and teachers.  The name “Flint” is on the back in upper left corner and refers to Louise Flint, a teacher at the school. 

Also on the back are the signatures of some students.  George Ramsey signed his name twice with the inscription “The best of luck to a swell teacher,” which indicates the signatures were collected by Louise Flint on her copy of the photo.  Louise Flint (c.1889-1976) would be around 59 in 1948 and is likely the woman standing on the left in the third row.

Many of the students would go on to graduate from Bernards High School in 1952 (Ridge High did not open until 1961).
