MARTA McDOWELL and the WHITE HOUSE GARDENS

Date: March 26, 2023
Time: 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

On Sunday, March 26, The Historical Society of the Somerset Hills will host a brunch event at the Grain House restaurant at the Olde Mill Inn in Basking Ridge featuring a presentation by Marta McDowell, the noted author and teacher about gardens, landscape history, and horticulture. Marta’s illustrated presentation will focus on her book, “All the Presidents’ Gardens,” an entertaining trip through America’s garden history as seen through the changing landscape at the White House.

Marta, who teaches landscape history and horticulture at the New York Botanical Garden, is also the recipient of the Garden Club of America’s Sarah Chapman Francis Medal for literary achievement. Her other books include: “Unearthing the Secret Garden: The Plants and Places That Inspired Frances Hodgson Burnett,” “Emily Dickinson’s Gardening Life,” “Beatrix Potter’s Gardening Life,” and “The World of Laura Ingalls Wilder.” Marta’s newest book, set to debut in the fall of 2023, is “Gardening Can Be Murder,” about garden themes in crime fiction. Signed copies of some of Marta’s books will be available for sale at the event.
